Jura is Islay's closest neighbouring island and much like Islay, Jura is a wonderful island and a must to visit for at least a day when you're staying on Islay. This morning we headed with the early ferry to Jura and spent most of the day in Craighouse and at the Corran Sands near the airstrip. The weather was perfect, the sky was blue and these were the right ingredients for a magnificent day. Unfortunately the Jura House Gardens are still closed, ever since a new owner bought the estate, but there is enough to see and do to make your daytrip to Jura worth while. Have a look at the video below, taken from the north side of The Corran Sands overlooking the Small Isles Bay and the Paps of Jura. If the weather holds we will be heading for Colonsay tomorrow.
I had a walk on the Bunnahabhain road early this morning to practice my "wildlife photographing skills" when somebody stopped their car and lowered the window..... It was Gordon Yates and his wife, a lovely surprise. Later in the morning we left for Port Ellen and had a lovely time at the beach and around the village. The Port Ellen Hotel is progressing really well. Projected opening time is June, as in next month!! Port Ellen is quiet without the ferries coming in but lovely as ever. The afternoon was spent around the cottage and I went for a wee walk to my "favourite tree" near Ardnahoe. We had some more clouds in the afternoon but the weather is still gorgeous. If all goes well we will be heading for Jura tomorrow. Have a nice evening!
