It was a special day today, we started off with friendly although very windy weather and it improved quite a bit later in the day so we enjoyed lots of sunshine and blue skies. Late in the afternoon (at five) a big shower arrived at Loch Indaal as you can see from the images below. We started off at Bowmore for some shopping, went to Kilchiaran Bay and Chapel for some walking, to Portnahaven for a coffee, to Port Charlotte for some playing (Port Mor) and then home but not before we stopped at Loch Indaal to watch the dramatic clouds and heavy rain shower coming in. You can follow our trail through the pictures, again all taken with the 10-20mm lens from James. I particularly like the two Kilchiaran pictures, the one of the interior of Kilchiaran Chapel and the other one of the cup-marked stone and chapel together, and the one of the shower arriving at Loch Indaal. Again another very nice day on Islay, weatherwise, picturewise and otherwise. See you tomorrow when I hopefully have some pictures of the peat cutting workshop on the Oa with Rachel MacNeill of Wild and Magic Islay.

Fri, 21 May 2010 11:23:00 -0700 A Warm and Crowded Day on Islay http://isleofislay.posterous.com/a-warm-and-crowded-day-on-islay http://isleofislay.posterous.com/a-warm-and-crowded-day-on-islay

There are many people coming off the ferries and planes who arrive for the festival week and the island is getting a lot more crowded. As you can see in one of the images Bowmore was very busy this afternoon and it will probably be even more busier tomorrow when the majority of the festival visitors arrive. One thing is sure, the weather is great, it’s very warm and the forecast looks great. We spent most of the day on a peaceful beach in Port Wemyss and thus avoided the “whisky crowds”. Tomorrow will be our last day on Islay so I can’t make any promises of posting anything but usual blogging on my Islay Blog will start again on Monday. The ship is called Thalassa, is from the Netherlands, docked near Bruichladdich and is here for the festival. It was fun to keep you all up to date of our whereabouts on this blog. Our three weeks on Islay were the best ever and we are looking forward to returning to our beloved island really soon ;-)

Sun, 16 May 2010 12:01:52 -0700 Currie Sands near Portnahaven Islay http://isleofislay.posterous.com/currie-sands-near-portnahaven-islay http://isleofislay.posterous.com/currie-sands-near-portnahaven-islay

After a grey start of the morning the weather rapidly changed and we were at Debbies around eleven this morning, we sat in the sun enjoying our coffees and watched the world go by, what a great start of the day. Around lunchtime we arrived at Claddach where we spent some happy hours on the beach at the Currie Sands. The images show what a very lovely place this is and there is enough to be seen in the nearby area. The weather was kind to us and we had pleasant sunshine most of the day. In the afternoon we visited Bofrois, Auntie Flora’s coffee and sweet shop in Portnahaven, and we had a really nice conversation and good coffee there as well. Remember this place when you’re in the area!
